Senior Luncheon on Independence Day

Oakland Lodge has been hosting the Senior Luncheon for many years, as honoring and paying respect to the seniors in our community is a very Chinese tradition. Beginning in 2004, we started hosting Senior Luncheons on July 4, the Independence Day, with a flag raising ceremony presented by the members of the Veterans of Foreign War, Post 3956. It is a day to respect our elders, honor our veterans, and celebrate the birth of our country. Today we host the Senior Luncheons at the Lincoln Community Center. We serve lunches and provide gift bags to more than 350 seniors every year. At the luncheon, we have a flag raising ceremony conducted by local boy scouts, and entertainment by volunteering individual or group performers.
